As this report is published, Artemis II has traveled more than 105,000 miles from Earth. The four-person team will complete a circumlunar trajectory during their ten-day expedition. Functioning primarily as a demonstration for forthcoming deep space voyages, this represents NASA's initial lunar mission since the Apollo era. The astronauts won't touch down on this occasion; that milestone is reserved for Artemis IV, scheduled for 2028.
